米尼涅斯：羅馬的元老們就是這一個好肚子，你們就是那一群作亂的器官；因為你們要是把他們所討論、所關切的問題仔細檢討一下，把有關大眾幸福的事情徹底想一想，你們就會知道你們所享受的一切公共的利益，都是從他們手裡得到，完全不是靠著你們自己的力量。你以為怎樣，你這一群人中間的大拇腳趾頭？

市民甲：我是大拇腳趾頭？為什麼我是大拇腳趾頭？

MENENIUS. The senators of Rome are this good belly,
And you the mutinous members; for, examine
Their counsels and their cares, digest things rightly
Touching the weal o' th' common, you shall find
No public benefit which you receive
But it proceeds or comes from them to you,
